In any case, it is clear that a lack of exercise makes you sick. Sports professor Ingo Froböse warns that the pandemic is even more conducive to this. He fears that staying at home will not only harm us in the current situation, but will also have massive repercussions in the future.
The expert criticizes: “According to the current plan, sport is only possible very late in most areas. So what we are currently depriving people of that, what we previously recognized as a guarantee for good health: sport and exercise. We are overturning the entire system of physical activity ”. We will suffer from this for a long time to come. He prophesies: “At the moment we are producing the sick of the future.”
According to Froböse, the wrong strategy was chosen for the pandemic and lockdowns. The health guarantee of movement is being taken from people. It is restricted by the pandemic conditions.
The lack of exercise and its side effects affect both children and adults.
The sports medicine specialist warns that children’s physical and mental development is inhibited. “How is a bone supposed to develop properly if there is no jumping around? How should the lungs or the cardiovascular system develop if the pulse never skyrockets? If we never get out of breath? ”Asks Froböse. Children and adolescents lack the necessary growth stimuli. These don’t happen while sitting. Energy consumption is also reduced, which leads to obesity.
Significant physical consequences can also be expected in adults.
Ingo Froböse warns: “The Germans are too fat anyway, they gained between three and four kilos last year. And that’s more than just a ‘heavy’ burden. That will give us diseases in the future.” Fat burning disorders, diabetes and obesity are inevitable, just like cardiovascular diseases.
The scientist worries about those who are currently in need of protection. “Because in what we are doing, we produce the need for care,” says Froböse. Older people are no longer challenged enough. The social distance leaves its mark.
The only chance we have is to take countermeasures – immediately
Froböse warns: “I would like a campaign as soon as possible that conveys the importance of physical activity and sensible nutrition”. His opinion is that a fast food lockdown makes more sense than preventing people from exercising. Measures such as an active lunch break could be a step in the right direction. An exercise plan for seniors and sports in homeschooling also make sense. This can be implemented through cooperation with fitness facilities.
How Froböse imagines the time after the pandemic: “Then we’ll all do sport together again. Then we will catch up this year, then Germany must be made mobile. Then we all have to move – the Federal Chancellor in front! ”.
